Would you choose to have a weapon so great, or skills so mastered?
I’m sure many would choose the Former as a shortcut. Why spend YEARS mastering a skill when you can just have the greatest weapon and win?
*SHINGGGGG*
What if you lose the weapon? What if there is a strike limit to the weapon? A fluff?
Worse: Lack the skills to swing it and hit anything.
Who you gonna blame????
I have heard WAYYY too many people talking about Digital Marketing being the future. “I want a career in Digital Marketing.” “Social Media is changing the future.”
My expression, if only i’m as charismatic
The term “Digital Marketing” has been appearing in research articles, Marketing News etc. Where the Big Men would roll., but let me ask the readers something; The skill? or the tool?
The emphasis of the term “Digital Marketing” is STILL the word Marketing. Many have failed to recognize that.
In my own fantasy world of Marketing combat, where weapons are Channels and fireballs are Campaigns. Skills of Strategic & Planning are the ULTIMATE SKILL TO SPEND ALL YOUR POINTS TO MAX.
So just imagine… You, being the best warrior in the world, is gifted with the greatest weapon of the century (Digital). THAT, is the formula of a HERO.
If you are a Digital immigrant, you have learnt by now to NOT TRUST THE INTERNET FULLY!
There was a period where the internet is very free, with not much laws and security. especially E-commerce, hence older generation are skeptical of whats on the internet from the beginning.
IS THIS REAL?
But imagine being BORN & RAISED into a digital world, where everything you were taught and seen is from the internet. You tend to believe it all, without much question.
SEE?! if you know it, you know it.
FALSE ADVERTISING! One of the things that people today face and suffered, yet continued falling for it.
False Advertising has been around since the dawn of media, the internet was just the steroids for that.
I GOT THE POWER!
False Advertising comes in many forms. Misleading Ads are one that we are familiar with. Let’s talk Diet Coke.
The name itself is misleading, DIET coke. From what it means, it helps you lead a healthy lifestyle? NOPE! It just means that it’s “healthier” then the normal Coke.
It does sound healthier tho
It misleads consumers thinking that it is okay to “SPAM” it because it’s diet coke. But it has close to ZERO health benefits.
But the clever thing is, Coca-cola left it to the perception of the customer, and never REALLY said that it’s healthy. So who could say that its FAKE?
BIGGEST LOOPHOLE IN E-Commerce (In my opinion)
YEAHHHHH….
Reviews are often the most important deciding Information Search that online consumers rely on. But are they all real? or paid?
Ever went to a restaurant that’s recommended by a well-known website, coupled by amazing blog reviews, yet turns out to be a HUGE PILE OF disappointment?
SO BOTTOM-LINE TAKEAWAY: TAKE A PINCH OF SALT WITH EVERYTHING ONLINE
What is the most ridiculous fakes have you experienced online? Share in the comments with me!
As marketers, we always hope to garner as much attention to our campaigns as possible.
But is being viral really that important? to risk losing group of customers, to please another? Lets talk Gillette.
Backstory: Gillette changed ONE word in their 30 year old slogan with an Ad earlier this year.
2 Million views on Youtube in 2 days! Sounds like an amazing reach? Well yeah, but most for the wrong reasons.
A short film, called Believe, plays on their famous slogan “The best a man can get”, replacing it with “The best men can be”. If you haven’t seen it, i did you a favor below
The reaction to this “Short film”? 2 Dislikes to 1 like on Youtube. Bad? Yeah, but not the worst that Gillette had coming for them.
Gillette’s attempted to target the topic of “Toxic Masculinity” to gain publicity with “Politically Correctness”. However, many loyal customers of Gillette views it as “Feminist Propaganda”
Tweets of rebuking;
Hashtags are created to gather support against Gillette
However, there is an old saying, “There is no such thing as bad publicity”. Positive responses are still heard from the public.
I suppose if you lose some, you gain some. Gillette commented that they will not go back on what they “Believe” (name of the short film), despite the backlash. Because its the right thing to do.
However, Gillette’s parenting company, Procter & Gamble recorded a 8 Billion dollar loss after the campaign.
Do you think Gillette is right? Despite the huge loss? Share your views in the comments!
Do you even click on Page 2 when you do a search on Google? I don’t think sooo
They say the best place to bury a body, is the 2nd
page of a google search. It is shown that 75% of search engine users clicks on only
the top 5 results that pops up.
But does that really mean that the top 5 results are the best that you can choose from?
What you see from Search Engines
“Can you google where is the cheapest beer in town?” I’m sure that there will be abundance of results that consumers can benefit from, knowing where to get cheap beers.
But is the top result that appear really be the CHEAPEST? The place that you’re gonna visit is most probably not the cheapest you can find, but the one that did better search engine marketing!
*DOUBT INTENSIFIES*
In both Desktop and in Mobile, Google has over 80% market share in search engines. The word ‘Google’ has almost essentially replaced “internet search”.
IS SEO REALLY DEAD?
The answer is a resounding NO. As consumers depend on search engines for information.
If your website or store is not “Searchable”, it’s internet
presence is close to none. Sadly but true as digital technology has made
consumers “lazy”, in a sense of digging deep into dark areas “Page 2”.
2 types of Search Engine Marketing
Search Engine Optimization
Improving the position of the website by listing relevant keywords or phrases to the words used in the search. Best part of it is ITS FREE and you don’t have to pay Search Engines for it.
SAVING ON A BUDGET!
However in the past, some websites uses keyword stuffing,
which means that they just kept on repeating the keywords over and over to
improve search position. It is called the Black Hat Method.
Now you have to ensure that your keyword is not abnormally repeated, and your website must be of quality CONTENT or you will be rejected by Search Engines like GOOGLE!
Pay-Per-Click
A paid ad that shows up on the top of the search page for selected keywords that is only charged when someone clicks on the Ad and goes to the web page.
This approach also generates Data that you can measure performance with google analytics. However it can be rather pricey if you chose to bid for generic keywords in a certain industry.
DOLLA DOLLA BILLS YO!!
As Marketers, we must acknowledge the importance of Search Engine Marketing. Its either you do it for a fair chance, or don’t do it and lose the race.
Question!
Do you think SEM is neccesary? and how often you “google” something before making a purchase? Let me know in the comments below!
How much does companies know about you internet dwellers?
Ever wonder why the ads that appears on your small little screens are the EXACTLY things you are looking for?
Networking Tech Giants like Google & facebook has been in our lifes since buttons evolved to touch screens.
So they pretty know more about you than your own siblings!
From how often you crave for Fried chicken to which human is your favorite.
*Above Human and Fried Chicken triumphs above all others*
How do they? Internet of Things (IoT) is the source.
When the world changes everything, to SMART everything, it is hard for your daily diary (preference data) to not be peeked. Where all your devices are connected by a network that monitors everything you say, do and see.
“But life is easier with technology and internet!” “It is so convenient!”
YES! I AGREE! Everyday activities has become a breeze, with the help of Internet and smart devices.
But how immune are you to the recommendations that they flash before you “Unintentionally”?
For Example;
“There is a promotion for fried chicken near my place today! I wanted Pizza but….Fried chicken it is!”
“Recommend!: 10/10 Sci-Fi Action Movie, now streaming” x 17 times. watched 17 times
The world has so much for you explore. More then what your 6″ screen has to offer
BREAK THRU THE FILTER BUBBLE! Lift your heads and explore, your eyes are the best camera lenses. Do what your heart says, not your phones.
What relationship do you have with your phone? I’m pretty sure it is a close one. It’s probably the first thing you check when you open your eyes in the morning, and the last thing you face when you drift off to sleep.
Whenever one is leaving home, they might forget their bags, wallets. Some even house keys. But never their phones!
Mobile phones are not how they are used to be in the past, you can even regard them as mini computers in your pockets. With functions one might say that they “can’t get thru the day without”.
EVOLUTION OF MOBILE PHONE
Evolving from being a bulky portable telephone with buttons which sole purpose was to make telephone calls, to a slim touch-screen device that aids us in almost every aspect of our daily lives.
Some might say that the biggest advantage of modern-day mobile phone is the social networking capabilities and personality extensions on social media platforms. However, I personally find the ability of acquiring information about almost anything within seconds is the most important function of a mobile phone.
Having the world’s knowledge in our palms helps us make better decisions in our everyday activities. A good example from my personal experience would be information search on purchase decisions.
MOBILE MARKETING
With the increased usage of Mobile phones, also known as the “Fourth Screen”, Consumers has started moving from TV ads and Billboard Banners, to Online promotions and product reviews. Marketers now relies on digital marketing efforts to further extend their reach to consumers. Efforts like building Brand communities thru social networking & Location-Time based promotional push.
The Mobile app; Eatigo is a personal favourite that i rely on when I am looking for Location-Time based promotional deals
Eatigo offers various promotional discounts during the day at different hours, with the restaurants near you. A good example of a successful Location-Time based promotional app.
Let’s take a look at some interesting marketing campaigns
Mobile Marketing has came a long way in a short amount of time. While consumers and markets alike are slowly migrating from traditional marketing, it is almost certain that Digital era has begun.
